What is volleyball?
Volleyball or also called volleyball is a sport that consists of two teams, made up of six players each , who face each other, within a court divided by a net in equal parts. The main objective of this game is to pass the ball over the net and for it to hit the ground of the opponent's field.
The game begins with a team throwing the ball into the opponent's court . The duration of the rally may vary, depending on whether a foul was committed during the game or whether the opposing team was unable to intercept the ball and return it to the opposing court. Each team has three shots on the ball, which must be clean. The winning team of the first game will be assigned a point and will have a new service available.
Among its main rules we can find the famous rotation . Rotation occurs according to the points scored by each team.

Volleyball technical characteristics
- Field or court. It has a rectangular shape. It measures 18 meters long by 9 meters wide. The central line indicates the area to be occupied by the teams and has a liberated or free zone of between 3 and 5 meters.
- Networks. This has a length of 10 meters, approximately, and a width of 1 meter.
- Ball balloon. It is very different from the one used in soccer , since it is 65 centimeters in circumference and weighs almost 300 grams, making it an easy element to manipulate. The raw material that composes them, in general, is leather, although there are also synthetic material.
- Uniform. The clothes that the players must wear are: shorts, shirt, elbow and knee pads, socks and tennis shoes.
- Weather. The matches are made up of sets, which can be three, four or five. The team that succeeds in three of them will win the match. To win a round it is necessary to obtain at least twenty-five points, being mandatory to have two points of difference with the opposing team.
- Tie-breaker. The team that obtains 15 points, with the two difference, will win.
Referees and assistants in volleyball
During a volleyball game there are several referees working. The main referee is the one who is located next to the posts and his objective is to direct the game , giving the pertinent indications and drawing cards when necessary. There is also a second judge, whose role is to be assistant to the principal, standing at the post vacated by him.
On the other hand, we find the scorers, in charge of keeping track of the points, changes, rotations and fouls.
Also, the linesmen (who can be two or four and also assist the main referee) give an account of whether the ball fell on or off the court.
Movements in volleyball
- Take out. It occurs when a player projects the ball towards the opponent's sector.
- To block. When a player prevents the ball thrown by his rival from passing into his area.
- Receive. Prevent the ball from touching the ground, placing the hands and arms in a suitable position, thus being able to return the shot.
- Place / Arm. In a series of no more than three passes between the players of the same team, it is sought to achieve a play of both.
- Attack. Hitting the ball to the neglected area or to the player at a disadvantage.
- Top off. Returning the ball unexpectedly, with force.
