What Does validity Mean
The first step that is necessary to take to fully understand the term validity is to proceed to determine its etymological origin. In this sense, we would have to say that it is a word that emanates from Latin and is made up of three particles: the verb endurere , which can be translated as "to have vigor"; the particle - nt -, which is equivalent to "agent"; and finally the suffix - ia , which means "quality".
Validity is the quality of current (something that is in force). The term allows to name what is current or that has a good present, that is, that still fulfills its functions beyond the passage of time .
The validity can refer to people , objects or symbolic issues. In the case of human beings, the validity is usually linked to those who remain in the first level of a professional, sporting, artistic activity, etc. despite the fact that his age should reflect an eventual decline in his abilities. For example: "The validity of Martín Palermo is unquestionable, that is why at 37 years of age he is still a starter in one of the most important clubs in Argentina" , "Manu Ginobili ratified its validity just before renewing his contract with San Antonio Spurs ” , “ The artist proved his validity with a new album that has seduced all generations ” .
As for the objects, the validity usually refers to their expiration or loss of value : "Compact discs have lost their validity due to the advancement of digital music and the MP3 format" , "The validity of the television as the center of the Family entertainment is in doubt, as people spend more and more time surfing the Internet ” .
Thus, for example, starting from this meaning we would have to underline that there are many official and legal documents that are valid or not based on their validity. In this way, we find ourselves with the fact that when we are going to make a trip outside our country it is vital that our national identity document or our passport is fully valid. In the event that it is expired, they will not allow us to board the plane.
In the case of Spain, it is established by law that the passport for a person who is less than 30 years old will remain valid for a period of five years, while it will be ten for those over that age.
In the case of those under 30, said validity will be different. Thus, for children under 5 years it will be 24 months and for those up to 14 years of five years.
The validity, finally, can also be something that went out of style : “Leather pants and flowered shirts have not been in force for more than a decade” , “Velvet dresses never lose their validity and continue to be worn in different types of events ” .
In this world of design, the terms current and trend are closely related. Thus, this last concept is used to define those fashions that are most worn at that time.
