What is uninterrupted?

What Does uninterrupted Mean

The first thing we are going to do, before entering fully into its meaning, is to know the etymological origin of the term at hand. In this case, we can establish that the word uninterrupted derives from Latin and is the result of the sum of three lexical components of that language:

-The prefix “in-”, which can be translated as “no” or “without”.

-The verb “interrupt”, which was formed from the union of two differentiated parts: the prefix “inter-”, which means “between”, and the verb “rumpere”, which is equivalent to “break”.

-The suffix “-ido”, which is used to indicate who has received the action.

When something develops or exists without interruption , it is classified as uninterrupted . This adjective is used to qualify what remains in time without pauses or breaks .
For example: "Next week there will be 24 hours of uninterrupted tennis at the club as part of a solidarity initiative" , "During the summer, the pool will be open continuously between 7 in the morning and 9 at night" , "The home team has been leading the championship for eighteen uninterrupted months . "

Among the words that act as synonyms for uninterrupted we find some such as incessant, endless, running, constant, inexhaustible or even continuous. On the contrary, among its antonyms we come across exhaustible, sporadic, intermittent or terminable.
Suppose that a country's economy has been growing for eight consecutive quarters. Faced with this reality, it can be stated that said economy registers an uninterrupted growth of eight four-month periods. This means that economic activity grew in all these periods without exceptions.
Take the case of a soccer player who was part of a club in two stages: from 1998 to 2000 and from 2003 to 2007 . As can be seen, in total he spent eight years at the institution: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. The eight years, however, were not uninterrupted , since in 2001 and 2002 he played in another team.
Another example of the use of the term that we are addressing refers to the field of companies. Thus, there are some that are said to have uninterrupted customer service. What this means is that the person who needs it is attended at any time, 365 days a year.
In the field of health, the term uninterrupted can also be used. A clear example of this is that health professionals have warned that the uninterrupted use of contact lenses can lead to problems in their vision such as infections or even perforations of the cornea.
An uninterruptible power supply (or UPS , by the English acronym uninterruptible power supply ), on the other hand, is a device that provides electrical power for a certain time after the service is cut by a blackout. This device, therefore, allows equipment (such as a computer or medical device) to remain in operation without interruption despite a power failure.

The UPS fulfills its function thanks to having batteries that serve to store energy. Thus, when the blackout occurs, it continues to operate and contributes that energy to other equipment.
