What Does trophism Mean
The concept of trophism is not accepted by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) and, therefore, is not part of its dictionary . The term, however, is frequently used in medicine to refer to those functions of the body that are linked to nutrition, development and preservation of tissue .
There are various organic structures that are involved in the healthy state of tissues. Its function can be studied at different levels: trophism can be analyzed from the skin , muscles, etc. For this, the doctor has at his disposal various instruments and analyzes that allow him to obtain the necessary data.
The study of trophism in gynecology , for example, allows us to know what types of cells are in the genital area and how they regenerate. This information, which may vary according to the time of the woman's reproductive cycle, can provide useful information for the prevention or treatment of various diseases .
Vaginal trophism, on the other hand, it must be said that it involves some seriousness, since it makes it difficult for women to maintain their quality of life both as a couple and personally.
In the specific case of muscles , trophism depends on movements, innervation, and blood supply . Lack of mobility and excessive physical exercise are some of the factors that can affect muscle trophism.
Specifically, we can establish that muscle trophism is the process of development and nutrition of the life of the different tissues as well as their maintenance.
Within this type of trophism there are two important variants:
• Muscle atrophy, which is a notable decrease in the volume of the muscles that is usually coupled with a strong reduction in strength. It must be stated that it usually occurs due to a lack of exercise. However, it can also be caused by an injury or accident that affects a nerve and, as a consequence, a specific muscle.
• Muscle hypertrophy. Unlike the previous one, this is a trophism that consists of a notable increase in the size of the muscle fibers, which also implies a palpable growth of the muscle in question.
By starting from its essential meaning related to the nutrition of a tissue, it is possible to apply the idea of trophism in various fields. In medicine, as already we mentioned, the listed vaginal trophism , the muscular trophism , the intestinal tropism and others.
In the same way, it must be stated that there is what is known as neuronal trophism, cartilaginous or distal trophism, among many others.
There is also talk of trophism in biology , referring to certain environmental conditions.
Nor can we forget the existence of what is known as diastrophism. This is a term that is used within the field of geology to refer to all those changes of alteration or deformation that affect the earth's crust and that are due to the internal pressures and tectonic forces that exist within it.
