What Does tromp Mean
The concept of trompicar comes from the Portuguese Tropicar , in turn derived from the tropics , a variant of trôpego . The term refers to causing a person to stumble violently .
Examples of trompicar
For example: “The policeman ran and managed to trip the thief, who was lying on the ground” , “A protester managed to dodge the security forces and even tripped the president” , “The Uruguayan defender made the Russian striker and the referee did not hesitate to sanction the infraction ” .
A man about to splash in the water
The notion, as can be appreciated, is used as a synonym for stumbling or causing to fall . If an individual encourages another to tumble, what causes it is to lose stability and collapse.
Let's see the meaning that it acquires in each of the examples just exposed. In the first one, we see that a policeman was chasing a criminal who was escaping at high speed, and the only way he managed to stop him was by pouncing on him and causing him to stumble , in order to immobilize him until reinforcements arrived.
Next we have the case of an individual who advances towards the president to defeat him, and he succeeds thanks to preventing the security forces from stopping him in full swing. While the first example uses this action for justice purposes, the second is subversive in nature. Finally, in sport it is an offense , which must be penalized .
Wobble
Spinning can also refer to staggering or staggering progress : “After drinking his fourth beer, the man started spinning around the bar” , “His opponent's blows made the Armenian boxer spin, who was nevertheless able to stay in I walk to the end of the round ” , “ I can slow down or even stumble, but I will never stop ” .
In this case it is an intransitive verb , since it should not be accompanied by a direct object, as it does in the previous sense. Let's see a brief explanation: if we say that a soccer player splashes a rival , the highlighted part is the direct object , because the verb falls on it and needs it to offer a complete and coherent meaning.
Note that the add - direct can be a living being or thing. When trompicar acts as an intransitive verb, on the other hand, it is not correct to provide a complement, since the action falls on the subject. This can be seen more clearly if we pay attention to some of its synonyms, such as the aforementioned stagger : this verb has the same meaning but requires the reflexive form for its use.
Therefore, while we say "man trompicaba" we can not say "wobbly" but " is tottering" . In both the first and second examples, the characters stumble because of an external stimulus : one for having drunk too much alcohol, and another for having received too many blows in a boxing match. The latter, on the other hand, refers to trompicar as a synonym for "stumbling over an unexpected obstacle."
Too much alcohol makes us stumble
Figuratively
The idea of trompicar can also be used symbolically. Suppose that pro-government deputies present a project and the opponents put obstacles on it so that the initiative does not prosper. It can be said, then, that they intend to overturn the ruling party's proposal.
A sports team that begins to lose several games in a row, meanwhile, collapses: it begins to spin. His walk longer solid or firm, which backs up in the table of positions to fall to the bottom. Precisely, this last verb (to fall ) is the one that usually happens to stumble when the subject can no longer stand upright, both figuratively and literally.
