What is talent?

What Does talent Mean

From the Latin talentum , the notion of talent is linked to aptitude or intelligence . It is the ability to exercise a certain occupation or to carry out an activity. Talent is often associated with innate ability and creation, although it can also develop with practice and training.

For example: “We need a talented player to play in the middle of the field” , “The novelist's talent was once again demonstrated with his latest book” , “We are looking for talents willing to join a growing company” . As can be seen from these examples, the term can be used to name both the ability itself and the person who has that ability.

Today there is a television program that is world famous and that is based precisely on the discovery of new talents in the field of song. We are referring to “La Voz” or “The Voice”.
In it, several established artists, without seeing them, are listening to a series of people who consider that they have a powerful voice and that they can make an important niche in the music market. If those already established consider that this is the case, they press a button and the “talent” becomes part of the program.
Specifically, he becomes a contestant and that means that for several weeks he is helped by his coach and by other great professionals in the sector. In this way, you will be able to learn, improve and correct those mistakes that may prevent you from showing your full potential.
Talent is often understood as an expression of emotional intelligence , which consists of recognizing and managing one's own feelings to create motivation and manage social relationships.
The innate talent or inherited remains throughout life, but can be enhanced by studies and practices. The acquired talent , on the other hand, must be practiced almost constantly.
Acquiring certain talents is relatively simple (it is possible to attend literary workshops to improve the way of writing, for example), although others can only be learned from experience and, sometimes, they are even impossible to develop (the talent to lead or to mediate conflicts).
In the business field, and specifically within the human resources departments, there is an increasing commitment to the talent of the workers. Discovering that one so that employees can "exploit" it in the proper way means that they are much more satisfied with the tasks entrusted to them. And the company in the end is the one that benefits by obtaining better results and greater benefits.
For this reason, at the moment it is betting on developing disciplines in the workplace such as coaching or gamification that manage to bring talents to light and give the keys so that they are used for the benefit of all.
Finally, talent was a unit of monetary measurement used by the Greeks, Romans, and other ancient peoples. The talent is even mentioned in some biblical parables.
