What is sweat?

What Does sweat Mean

The first thing we are going to determine is the etymological origin of the term at hand. Thus, it must be established that sweat is a word that derives from the Latin "sweat" and that it has the same meaning that we currently give to ours in Spanish.

The sweat is an organic fluid secreted by the sweat glands . The usual thing is that it is generated through perspiration , which is a natural mechanism for regulating body temperature .
Thus, when a person perspires, the sweat glands produce sweat which then evaporates. This process helps to cool the body, preventing it from getting too hot.

Sweat, on the other hand, can be generated in response to various stimuli that excite the sympathetic nervous system . So when an individual is nervous or terrified, they sweat.
It is important to note that sweat is mostly made up of water . It also contains urocanic acid , toxins, and various kinds of electrolytes . Despite what is usually believed, sweat has no odor : the aroma attributed to it is actually due to bacteria that form on the skin from the humidity caused by sweat.
This substance is produced in the sweat glands, which can be divided into eccrine and apocrine . These glands are distributed in different layers of the skin and allow the secretion of sweat through the pores .
Although it is an element of our daily life about which we all know endless aspects, there are many others that, in reality, are myths and that have been gradually revealed and made known. Thus, although the opposite might be thought:

-Sweat does not mean that fats are being eliminated, simply water and minerals.

-The sweat does not understand sex, that is, it does not distinguish between men and women.

-The elderly sweat less on average than a person of average age since, with the passage of time, the sweat glands also age and they proceed to cool the body much less.

-Drinking more fluids does not mean that you will sweat more.

-At no time, the alcohol in the drinks is eliminated through sweat.
Although perspiration is essential for the body and the secretion of sweat is natural, there are health disorders linked to this liquid. The hyperhidrosis occurs when an organism produces an excessive amount of sweat due to a failure of the sympathetic nervous system. In this case, the person generates more sweat than is necessary for temperature regulation, a particularity that affects their quality of life.
It should be noted the existence of a problem that many people experience and that has to do with sweating. Specifically, what happens to them is that they sweat excessively causing them feelings of shame, especially in their relationship with others. Currently there are different treatments in this regard that end excessive sweating of the armpits, feet or hands using the latest technology thanks to devices such as the so-called miraDry, which works with electromagnetic energy.
