What Does sigh Mean
Suspiro is a term with etymological origin in the Latin word suspirĭum . The first meaning mentioned in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) refers to deep inhalation that is immediately continued by an exhalation and that, on occasions, is accompanied by a groan .
The sigh, in this case, is a type of expression that denotes sadness , anguish , desire or melancholy . The people can sigh consciously or, in many cases, an almost automatic or unconsciously. For example: "Upon hearing the medical report, the young man sighed: he knew he still had a long way to go" , "The old man's sigh was imperceptible" , "Between sighs and gasps, the couple surrendered to love . "
Breathing is involuntary but obligatory: we cannot stop breathing since we need the oxygen that we obtain through this process to stay alive. The sigh is similar in that we cannot force it, but it differs in that it is much less frequent and that it denotes a particular mood.
It can therefore serve as irrefutable proof of the emotions that a person is going through at a given moment. Of course, we do not all sigh with the same frequency, but there are those who experience this phenomenon much more often than others, but in no case can it be faked.
In colloquial language, the idea of sigh is usually linked to a very short period of time : “The happiness for the local team lasted a sigh since, one minute after having scored the first goal of the game, their rival got the tie " , " In this house, tranquility is nothing more than a sigh " , " The holidays are expected for several months but they end in a sigh " .
In these three examples, the concept gives us to understand that when used with this connotation there is always a part that is not satisfied with the duration represented by the term sigh . If we think about the soccer team that enjoyed their potential victory for just a minute, it goes without saying that they would have liked to savor it for much longer . Arguments or problems that take place too often in a homestay or vacations that end before we know it are not pleasant situations either.
The first paragraph defines the reasons why human beings sigh, and among them sadness and anguish are mentioned. We may think that when we use the term sigh to refer to too short a duration, it could also be accompanied by a sigh of frustration represented by a phrase in the style of "Ah ... is it over yet?" .
The expression "last gasp" , for its part, makes mention at the final moment of something: "The US team achieved the victory with a double in the last breath" , "The ruling party managed to gather the necessary votes in the last gasp of the assembly " , " Luckily I was able to communicate with the supplier in the last gasp of the day . "
When it's time to die, breathing is one of the body's functions that varies more clearly, becoming slower and, depending on the case, producing a more accentuated sound, similar to that of sighing. In a situation where the person dies calmly, simply lying down waiting for the moment in the company of their loved ones, it is possible to appreciate this "last gasp", which marks the beginning of the difficult mourning for others.
Lastly, Suspiro is the name of a gastronomic preparation that in some countries is known as meringue or meringue . It is a sweet that is made with egg white and sugar.
