What is sheath?

What Does sheath Mean

Vaina is a concept that comes from vagīna , a word from the Latin language. The term is used in different contexts , with different meanings.

A scabbard can be the sheath that protects a weapon , especially a knife . That is why the action of taking the weapon, removing it from the sheath, is known as drawing . For example: "Keep your knife in the sheath, there is no danger here" , "My uncle gave me a leather sheath for the dagger" , "The man kept his right hand on the sheath for long minutes, always ready to draw if the situation warranted it ” .
The scabbard can be made of metal , leather or wood , among other materials . The blade of the weapon is inserted through the curb (also known as the throat). When the scabbard is made of a material that can be damaged by the tip of the weapon, additional, more robust protection is added to the tip.

It should be noted that the element that allows the gunpowder and bullets to be wrapped in the same space is also called a pod. Thus, when a firearm is fired, it ejects the projectile with great force and the shell of the bullet falls. If a group of investigators find three pods in a room in a house where a crime has occurred, they may assume that three shots were fired with a firearm there.
In the field of botany , on the other hand, the shell that encloses certain seeds or the sector of the leaf or petiole that widens is called a pod : "Last night I ate a whole bag of peanuts with pods" , "To make this cake use a vanilla bean ” .
There are many pod vegetables , and they are characterized by having low calories and high nutritional value. Some of the best known and used in the kitchen are the following: flat green beans; green beans Malaga; Kenya Haricot; broad beans; green peas; snow peas.
Finally, in some Central American countries , pod is an annoying situation or person : "I can't stand this pod anymore: we'd better get out of this place . "
Colombia is the country in which the term pod is used the most, and it does not have a defined meaning , but rather serves to mention any object or situation of which we have forgotten the name . It is an authentic catchphrase that assists Colombians in their daily speech to save them the seconds needed to come up with those elusive words . Something similar happens in other countries with words of doubtful origin, such as being "coso."
While in Colombia it is common to find sentences such as "I don't know where I left that pod" or "Did you get the pod that I told you?" In Argentina, it is not uncommon to hear "Yes, it is that to disarm it I need the thing" or "I'm still looking for the thing . "

It is worth mentioning that Colombians do not always resort to the word pod when they cannot find the right one; on the contrary, they often use it to speak in code if they find themselves in front of someone with whom they do not want to share certain information ; For example, if a person is chatting with a coworker and wants to refer to his plans to resign, but his boss is in the same office, he may well say "in the end I will go ahead with the thing I told you about" .
On the other hand, there is also the expression to throw the pod out on someone, which means to scold them or try to humiliate them indirectly, situations that are usually directed at children and adults, respectively.
As in other parts of the world with different words, the comfort that "pod" offers Colombians has another side, one that impoverishes language and reduces the need to think carefully before speaking.
