What Does shareware Mean
Shareware is an English term that is not part of the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). The concept refers to a certain type of software that, due to its form of distribution, imposes some limitations on the user.
Typically, shareware is a computer program that is distributed for free . The user who wants to eliminate the limitations of the software , must pay a certain amount.
Shareware restrictions can be temporary (the program can only be used for a certain number of days and then crashes) or benefits (the software offers some tools , but if the user purchases the corresponding license, this number of tools is extended).
In addition to the aforementioned data, it is necessary to know that shareware has its origin in the 90s, specifically in 1992, since it was at that time when one was presented for the first time from the Wolfenstein 3D computer game. And it is that this had a first scenario from which to enjoy the relevant game and at the end of it the purchase option appeared.
Software manufacturers often distribute their creations as shareware with the intention that users can try the program for free and then, if they are satisfied with the features, purchase the license .
Many are the professionals in the computer field who defend shareware at all costs. Why? Because they consider that it is a tool that allows you to enjoy the following advantages:
-It is a great measure to be able to commercialize any type of software.
-Helps the customer to be satisfied since the shareware allows him to try it and then if it really convinces him, he chooses to buy it.
-Allows you to quickly correct errors when detected and also makes it possible to adjust and customize it to the customer's needs.
-Of course, the fact that it is the way to "attract" many customers is highlighted.
A distinction must be made between shareware (which can be used for free but, at a certain point, requires a payment) and freeware (software that is distributed for free, without the user having to pay at any time).
It is also important to be clear that the difference between shareware and freeware with adware must also be clarified, since sometimes they are often confused and used as if they were synonyms when in fact they are not. Therefore, it is necessary to know that the aforementioned adware is the term used to refer to what are programs that are distributed and can be used for free but that have the particularity that they include advertising.
A game of motor racing , for example, can be distributed as shareware. In the version that can be downloaded for free, the user has the possibility to choose between three types of car and race on two circuits. On the other hand, if the person buys the full version of the game, he has ten vehicles at his disposal and can compete on twenty different circuits. This means that the player who has tried the shareware and is interested in having more game options, must proceed to the corresponding purchase.
