From the Latin sollicitudo , request is a careful diligence or a request . The verb request , on the other hand, refers to asking, pretending or looking for something. For example: "This type of information should be requested by calling our customer service number: specialized personnel will attend to you there" , "I'm tired of filling out job applications and no one calls me" , "The club, at the request of the authorities , gave a list with the names of the partners who attended the match .
A job application is a contact letter that is sent to a company where you want to enter to work. The person concerned must explain, precisely and formally, what is the reason for their contact and detail their experience, skills, etc. Typically, the job application is accompanied by a curriculum vitae ( CV ), although some companies develop their own applications and leave them available to workers who wish to apply: "The company will accept applications until next Friday" , "Congratulations , your job application has been approved: you will soon be part of our team ” .
It is known as a passport application to the process that a citizen initiates to process the obtaining of a passport , a document that allows to leave one country and enter another. The characteristics of the procedure depend on each State : "The passport application takes about thirty days to be completed" , "I have to complete the passport application as soon as possible if I want to travel to Europe at the end of this year" .
In Spain, the application for working life allows any individual to receive a complete report of all the periods in which they have contributed to the Social Security System, either in a dependency relationship or as a self-employed person. This is the work history , which includes the start and stop dates of each activity, as well as the contribution balance for each case.
Among the reasons why we should request this document is the mere need to make a resume and not remember the exact dates of all our work experiences, the desire to check how many years we have been contributing or, more importantly, the doubt with regarding any of the companies for which we have worked not been given high in Social Security.
Although a request is, in essence, a request, both this noun and its verb, request, have a more formal, more serious nature, which is why they are not usually used between people with a close bond or affection. For example, if someone wants to borrow a book from a friend, they can say "I wanted to ask you to loan me Crime and Punishment," while a person who wants to unsubscribe from a service plan requests it.
There is another nuance that differentiates these two families of terms, and that emerges from their current use. When we talk about an application, there seems to be a right to do it that is implicit in the context: someone applies for a job or a passport because a company or body made this possibility available to citizens, in the first place. A request, on the other hand, tends to be of more interest to the person who makes it than to the person who receives it: a homeless person asks for money to overcome their own economic situation and the help they get will be beneficial only to them, although the other party may feel at ease glad to have extended a hand to him.
Finally, requests are usually made through forms previously designed by the entity to which they are addressed, or through formal letters, since, as explained in previous paragraphs, they are requests with a formal nature.
