What is remote control?

What Does remote control Mean

Before going fully into the meaning of the term remote control, we are going to know the etymological origin of the two words that give it its shape:

-Control, first of all, it derives from French. Exactly it emanates from “control”, which comes, in turn, from the expression “contre role”, which can be translated as “against the roll”. This was used to refer to the scroll that was used to verify the authenticity of another original.

-Remoto, on the other hand, derives from the Latin “remotus”, which is synonymous with “remote”. It is the result of the sum of two differentiated parts: the prefix “re-”, which means “backwards”, and the verb “movere”, which can be translated as “move”.

The idea of control has several uses: in this case we are interested in keeping its meaning as command or control of something. Remote , meanwhile, can refer to something distant .

These definitions allow us to understand the concept of remote control . It is a device used to manage the operation of a machine or a system remotely . That is why in Spain the remote control is known as a remote control .
The origins of the remote control date back to the end of the 19th century , when Nikola Tesla registered a patent for such a device. A little later, in 1903 , Leonardo Torres Quevedo made an experimental demonstration of a device that could execute commands that were transmitted to it through Hertzian waves.
The usual thing is that the remote control has a plastic casing, buttons, a plate with the connections for the different functions and a power source (batteries or batteries). The device emits a beam of light - invisible to humans - with information that must reach the machine to be controlled.
Today a large number of appliances can be operated with a remote control. In most homes, in fact, there are usually several remote controls: to operate the television , the audio equipment , the air conditioner , etc. Without leaving his bed, for example, a person can change the channel on the TV or modify the temperature of the air conditioner.
On the other hand, there are scale models of cars, helicopters, airplanes and other vehicles that can be operated with remote control. These radio controlled vehicles are very popular with children and even adults.
Other data of interest about the remote control are the following:

-The first universal remote control model was presented in the mid-1960s by William Russell McIntyre.

-There are also firearms that can be used with remote control.

-Today, in addition to television or dvd for example, remote controls play an essential role in raising and lowering garage doors at home. These devices become a system that not only makes it easier to access and leave that space to park the vehicle, but also bets on safety. Yes, because it prevents that, when getting out of the car to manually open the garage door, the person can be assaulted.
