What Does poet Mean
A poet , also known as a vate or bard , is an individual who is dedicated to creating poetry . A poetry , on the other hand, is a literary composition developed in verse that can also be called a poem .
Poets, therefore, are writers who turn to works in verse . When the person who writes poetry is a woman , she can be classified as a poet . For example: “The Chilean poet Pablo Neruda is my favorite writer” , “Although I wrote several poems, I don't consider myself a poet” , “Few people become millionaires by becoming poets” , “My daughter is a poet” .
There have been poets since ancient times: in fact, poetry is often associated with oral stories . The poetic composition, however, changed a lot with the advancement of history and today the notion of the poet encompasses very diverse authors, whose texts have few points in common.
The Greek Homer (who lived in the 8th century BC), the Italian Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), the Spanish Federico García Lorca (1898-1936), the Spanish Gloria Fuertes (1917-1998), the English William Shakespeare (1564 -1616), the German Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), the German Herta Müller (born 1953), the American Emily Dickinson (1830-1886), the French Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867), the Argentine Alejandra Pizarnik (1936-1972) and the Chilean Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) are just some of the most important poets in history, who managed to transcend borders and win over readers from all over the planet.
As is often the case with any artistic discipline, there is no specific criterion that allows defining a person as a poet. There are those who consider that poets are those who write verses of a certain quality; Others qualify as poets those who manage to publish books of poetry, and there are also those who call anyone who writes poetry a poet, even when they do not publish it.
In the same way, there are those who consider that one is born a poet , as well as a writer or artist in general, since it is not something that can be learned but a talent that must be developed. Each point of view can be valid, since they are opinions; It should be noted that among poets there are also different opinions about this same subject.
A good poet has the particular ability to use language as if it were a color palette with which he can create images that people from other fields could never imagine; This does not mean that poetry is necessarily beautiful , at least not as this term is conventionally understood, but that it takes advantage of words in infinite ways, renews them, gives them a life and a color that they have never had and puts them at the service of art. .
Unfortunately, the figure of the poet does not receive the same respect as that of the novelist, for example, nor does he usually obtain the same economic benefits for his work. Thanks to bad information, many people tend to think that writing poetry does not cost work or effort, that it is born from a moment of inspiration that is not followed by any kind of revision or rewriting process. While this may be true in some cases, poetry also takes intense dedication.
This perception of poetry turns the poet into a lazy and uncompromising being who, unlike the novelist, does not devote himself to the creation of his works for long months , but puts them on paper in a few minutes and then starts to admire the sunset. The reality is as different as it is flexible: there may be little dedicated novelists and poets who do not leave their desks, for example.
