What is opposition?

What Does opposition Mean

Opposition is the action and effect of opposing or opposing (proposing a reason against what another person says, putting something against something else to prevent its effect, placing something in front of something else, contradicting a design).

The concept of opposition is very common in the field of politics . It is known as opposition to the parties, legislative bodies or deliberative bodies that habitually challenge the actions of the government . The opposition, therefore, is the sector adverse to the established or dominant power .
For example: "The opposition has vetoed in Congress the official proposal on pensions" , "The government has disqualified the opposition by ensuring that, throughout the year, it has not presented a coherent project" , "The president asked to support the opposition to face the economic crisis ” .

To all this we would also have to add that the term in question is used to name the personnel selection process carried out within public administrations, for example, in Spain. Specifically, it consists of an exam where candidates for employment must correctly answer as many questions as possible, normally multiple choice, about the lessons that made up the established agenda.
However, although that test is the one that is usually carried out, it should not be forgotten that in addition, on other occasions, it also includes from carrying out psychotechnical exercises to practical assumptions or even activities to demonstrate knowledge of languages.
The United Kingdom, France or the United States are other countries that also carry out this type of opposition to find the perfect workers for their corresponding administrations. However, it must be taken into account that, on many occasions, the process consists of what is called competition-opposition. What this means is that there will be a part of the exam with which you will have a score and that will be added to the one obtained based on your degree, experience or the courses that have been taken.
Teachers, judges, orderlies or administrative assistants are some of the positions that can be filled within the public sphere through this system that, although it maintains common bases, then has special characteristics depending on the place where the corresponding opposition is to be held. .
Opposition is also the antagonism or contradiction between two things . This antagonism arises from very different or contrary characteristics in things in opposition. In this way, one can speak of the opposition between day and night , city and country , noise and silence , etc.
Another use of the term is linked to the rejection or resistance to what a person says or does: "The attendees did not take long to express their opposition to the singer's sayings" , "The governor invited the public to stand up to receive the guest , although the opposition to said proposal was evident ” .

The arrangement of certain things that appear opposite each other can also be known as opposition.
