Frequency polygon is the name for a graph class that is created from a frequency histogram . These histograms use vertical columns to reflect frequencies : the frequency polygon is made by joining the highest points of these columns.

That is, therefore, we could establish that a frequency polygon is one that is formed from the union of the different midpoints of the tops of the columns that make up what is a frequency histogram. This is characterized because it always uses what are vertical type columns and because there should never be spaces between what are one and the other.
A frequency polygon is based on a frequency histogram.
In the social sciences, natural sciences and also in economics it is where these histograms are used most frequently since they are used to carry out what is the comparison of the results of a certain process.

Frequency polygon types
Frequency polygons for grouped data are known as those that are developed by the class mark that coincides with the midpoint of the different columns of the histogram. At the moment of the representation of all the frequencies that are part of a grouped data table, the histogram of accumulated frequencies is generated that allows the diagramming of the corresponding polygon.

The highest point in a frequency polygon equals the highest frequency, while the area under the curve includes all the data that exists. It should be remembered that frequency is the greater or lesser repetition of an event , or the number of times that a periodic event is repeated in a time unit.

Given the value and utility of the aforementioned polygons, it should be noted that these can be made in a very simple and fast way. Specifically, there is the opportunity to undertake them through a computer program that has become one of the key axes of the operation of any company. We are referring to the software known as Excel.
