Disappointment and endings are often closely linked, especially in mass consumption art, but also in less popular works. For various reasons, human beings tend to search fiction for realities that complement our own, stories in which better decisions are made than we do, or that teach us to overcome certain fears and obstacles.
When we are caught by a book, a movie or a play, we establish bonds with the characters that transcend time and space, we come to feel that we have known them all our lives and we get involved with their stories as if they were our own. . For this reason, we do not usually tolerate endings that do not meet our expectations, unless they exceed them.
