What Does ephemeris Mean
In the Greek it is where the etymological origin of ephemeris is found. Specifically, it derives from “ephemerís, ephemeridos”, which can be translated as “everyday”. And it must also be established that that word later passed into Latin, it did so as "ephemeris", which was used by different authors of the 1st century BC, such as Cicero, to refer to a newspaper where they came to collect the most relevant facts of every day.
It is a concept that refers to a relevant event that is commemorated on its anniversary .
It is important to mention that this term can be named as ephemeris or ephemeris interchangeably. This means that it is possible to speak of "the ephemeris" or "the ephemeris" , both expressions being correct according to what is indicated by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ).
The events that, due to their characteristics, remain in history and are remembered as time passes, constitute ephemeris. It is common for the media to appeal to the ephemeris to refer to this type of event. There are even sections of ephemeris that may indicate: "On a day like today, but in 1492, Christopher Columbus arrived on the American continent" , "Ephemeris: on August 4, 1932 the Centro Social Club was founded . "
Thus, among the most important events in history we come across some such as these:
-On February 24, 1500, the birth of one of the most significant monarchs of all time takes place: Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany.
-On July 14, 1789, the Storming of the Bastille takes place in Paris, which comes to signify the triumph of what is known as the French Revolution.
-On March 10, 1876 Alexander Graham Bell succeeds in having the first telephone communication in the world.
-On June 28, 1914, the start of the First World War takes place.
-On July 20, 1969, the first arrival of man on the Moon takes place.
-On November 8, 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall takes place.
The celebration of these anniversaries and the commentary oriented to the events of each day is also called ephemeris : "The ephemeris of national sports indicate that on April 21 the soccer team won its first continental title" , "I do not think there is a similar achievement in the ephemeris of this team ” .
The astronomical ephemeris , on the other hand, collected annually coordinates of the fixed stars and the planets about the Ecuador and the ecliptic. They also mention other data such as lunar distances and eclipses.
It can be pointed out that the astronomical ephemeris compile the values of the positions that astronomical objects adopt at certain times.
In the same way, we cannot ignore the existence of a web space that is entitled Efemérides 2.0 and that allows to know the most important historical events and events that took place on the different days of the year and that now celebrate their corresponding anniversary.
