What is decrepit?

What Does decrepit Mean

The term decrepit we have to establish that it has its etymological origin in Latin. It is exactly derived from “decrepitus”, which is the result of the sum of two well differentiated parts such as these:

-The prefix “de”.

-The verb “crepare”, which is synonymous with “creaking” or “producing a dry noise”.

It is an adjective that qualifies that person or that which, due to old age or seniority , suffers a notorious deterioration of its condition .
For example: "That decrepit old man is in no condition to tell me what to do!" , "I have slept in a decrepit chair for three nights: all my bones ache" , "The security officer was surprised to see a decrepit old man stealing the coins from the fountain . "

Suppose a tourist staying four nights in hotel very old and poorly maintained. Upon returning home, he details on a social network of travelers his bad experience, stating that it is a "decrepit" hotel establishment since its elevators do not work, the carpets have stains, the tables and chairs in the dining room are broken and the building has serious electrical problems.
Decrepit is also the characteristic or characteristic of someone or something decrepit : "The decrepit appearance of the city's public buildings is unfortunate" , "His decrepit way of moving did not prevent him from walking about ten kilometers" , "The decrepit appearance of the woman surprised her neighbors ” .
If someone speaks of the "decrepit state" of a person , they are referring to their deteriorated appearance and physical handicaps. A 50-year-old man who, due to his drug addiction, lost his teeth, lost his job, wears dirty and old clothes and has to walk with the help of a cane, shows a “decrepit state” .
In the same way, we cannot ignore the use of the term at hand in various song titles. A good example of this is the composition "Old decrepit", by El Muertho de Tijuana. It is part, specifically, of his album “Padre Santo”, which was released in 2015 and is part of the rock genre.
In the field of literature we find the book entitled “Histories of a decrepit neighborhood. Memories of an alienated mind ”, which is written by Curzio. In 2016 it was when this work came to light, which is a compendium of stories halfway between the pulp genre and the crime novel.
In these stories, topics such as sex, violence, drugs or lies are addressed, taking as a setting the Barrio de Estrecho, located in Madrid.
It is also interesting to know that among the synonyms for decrepit are obsolete, old, decadent, finished, senile, past or old. On the other hand, in terms of its antonyms, some stand out such as new, brand-new, shiny, robust, healthy, vigorous, robust or energetic, among others.
