What Does conceit Mean
In order to determine the meaning of the term vainglory, the first thing we are going to do is know its etymological origin. In this sense, we can state that it is a word that derives from Latin. Specifically, it is the result of the sum of two components of that language:
-The adjective “vanus”, which can be translated as “empty”.
-The noun "glory", which is equivalent to "fame", "honor" or "splendor".
Boasting is the arrogance or presumption of an individual regarding his actions or self- worth . The verb boast alludes to this act of boasting. For example: "I am fed up with the pride of this artist: he may have a lot of talent, but he lacks humility" , "I do not understand your pride: you have just made a big mistake and, nevertheless, you are proud of your actions" , " You should not act out of vainglory, but out of solidarity ” .
The term boastful, therefore, is also a conjugation of the verb boast: "The opposition newspaper still boasts of having denounced the deputy three years ago who today is indicted in a cause for corruption" , "The manager of the record company he always boasts about the discovery of these musicians in a small bar ” , “ The police chief boasts for having managed to arrest the most wanted criminal in recent times ” .
Boasting, in short, is associated with exaggerated pride or conceit of a person for their own actions or achievements. Suppose an experienced writer gives a lecture. Before the audience, he lists all the awards he has obtained throughout his career, provides information on the books he sold and boasts of having renewed the literature of his country thanks to his innovative style and daring. The writer, with this attitude, what he does is boast of his achievements. As can be seen, boasting is not linked to the veracity or falsity of the exposed sayings, but rather to the attitude that the subject shows.
Within the religious sphere, there is much talk of vainglory, since it is considered that the person who continually highlights his virtues, actions and possessions in front of others is committing an attack on values. It is considered that it happens to be someone who is not humble.
Specifically, "The Bible" is used to, from several of its passages, show that they can fall into the constant pride of themselves from foolish sinners to the rich and famous.
We can precisely state that there are numerous "celebrities" of today who continually boast of their awards, their lives full of luxuries, their professional successes and even their physical appearance. For many, for example, someone who is continually boasting of everything he is and what he has is the Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays in the ranks of Real Madrid.
Precisely the one who speaks of himself as the best player in the world or who is at all times showing off the luxury in which he lives causes numerous antipathies among the population.
