What Does blew it Mean
The term murmur can be used in a number of ways. The first meaning recognized by the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) is linked to the verb blow (push or inflate something with air ). For example: "A soft gust of wind reached to close the door" , "I felt a cool gust on the back of my neck that made me turn around" , "With a gust, Juan blew all the papers away" .
On the other hand, it can be confidential information that is entrusted to another person or an accusation : "The infiltrated agent already gave us the tip: the operation will begin tonight" , "Thanks to the tip of a neighbor, we were able to arrest this dangerous drug trafficker ” .
In another sense, the idea of a murmur is used to name a period of time that is very short or that which only extends for a few moments: "The position of manager lasted me a murmur" , "Although sometimes it seems otherwise, I assure you that life is a breath: when you stop to think, you are already an old man ” .
The concept of a murmur is also used in medicine . In this area, the murmur is a characteristic sound that a doctor detects when examining various parts of the body related to the heart. This noise can be normal or show a pathology, depending on the case.
What the doctor perceives through his stethoscope is the noise that the blood makes when passing through certain vessels or sectors of the body. The murmur can be harmless, without generating consequences for the health of the person, although there are also murmurs that require the development of a treatment.
The innocent heart murmur is the least worrisome, and does not usually cause more signs or symptoms than described in the previous paragraphs. The abnormal , on the other hand, can lead to certain phenomena that are not always easily evident but it is necessary to be attentive to detect them and go to the doctor. Let's see below some of its most common symptoms:
* bluish color of the skin, particularly towards the ends of the fingers and on the lips;
* increased body weight or swelling in a very short time;
* shortness of breath;
* chronic cough;
* enlargement of the veins in the neck or liver;
* lack of appetite;
* growth retardation (this can happen to babies with an abnormal heart murmur);
* excessive sweating, even at times of rest or minimal activity;
* pain in the chest area;
* dizziness or fainting.
It is important to note that most cases are of low severity. However, if we suspect that we are suffering from a heart murmur and we have a medical assistance service, it is recommended to ask for a consultation to clear up doubts and, in the worst case, start treatment before the condition worsens .
Murmurs found in a normal heart are also called functional murmurs , and are usually more common in newborn or younger children. The abnormal, however, can occur from two main causes , depending on age: in children, they often occur due to a congenital heart disease; in adults, nearly 100 percent of the time they occur from acquired heart valve disorders.
A functional heart murmur can occur when blood flow to the heart is faster than normal. Among the problems that often cause this anomaly are the following:
* a pregnancy;
* fever;
* physical exercise;
* insuficiencia de glóbulos rojos en buen estado de salud, capaces de oxigenar los tejidos adecuadamente;
* exceso de hormona tiroidea (hipertiroidismo);
* etapas en las que el crecimiento se da a un ritmo alto, como ser la adolescencia.
