What is blended oil?

Blended oils are combinations of essential oils used for massage and aromatherapy. By mixing two or more oils, it is possible to achieve a scent that can help promote a specific reaction, such as relieving tension or improving mood. It is possible to buy blended oil or buy individual oils and blend them at home.

One of the basic concepts of aromatherapy is that scents have healing properties that can stimulate the production of various chemicals in the brain. Every essential oil collected from nature is understood to produce some sort of positive effect on the mind and body. By combining one or more of these oils in a measured blend, it is possible to enhance the effect of oil therapy and provide the individual with more relief from whatever ailment they are dealing with.

Many people prefer to use professionally prepared blended oil products. One of the reasons for this is the consistent quality of the product. Since the amounts used of each oil in the blend are the same each time, it is reasonable to expect the product to have the same aroma with each new vial or bottle of oil.

However, other people prefer to create their own blended products at home. This allows them the option of adjusting the combination to suit the occasion. They may choose to use two parts of an oil today, but tomorrow they prefer to use only one part of that oil while adding an entirely new oil to the mix for a slightly different response.

Whether purchased in premixed formulas or blended at home, the blended oil is used to help with a number of different emotional and physical issues. One of the most popular applications is to help relieve tension and calm the nervous system. For this purpose, the oil can use cloves, rosemary, lemon or cinnamon bark in the combination.

There are also oil formulas meant to help with physical problems. A common blended oil to use for bruising is Roman and German chamomile, French lavender, and carrot seed. Helichrysum can also be introduced into the mix.

For general well-being, a blended oil can contain elements such as cinnamon, fir, ginger, cloves, and orange. Frankincense, myrrh, and patchouli may also be included. Combinations of this type are said to help balance the activity of the mind with that of the body and achieve a state of total harmony.

It is even possible to use blended oil to deal with mosquitoes and other airborne insects while you are outside. A simple combination of lemon and vanilla is believed to ward off pests and leave a pleasant scent on the skin. For people who don't like applying commercial chemicals to their skin, this oil recipe may be especially appealing.

You can buy blended oil at many vitamin and health food stores. Online retailers also offer a wide range of combinations of single and blended oils, as well as recipes to create unique combinations at home. Prices for blended products vary, depending on the number and type of blended oils in the formula.
