What is adventure Turism?

What Does adventure Turism Mean

The set of activities that people develop during their trips and stays in places that are different from their usual environment is known as tourism . Leisure, business and health are some of the motivations that can lead a subject to carry out a tourist activity.

Before proceeding to determine the meaning of the term adventure tourism, it is necessary to establish what is the etymological origin of the two main words that make it up. In this sense, it must be said that both emanate from Latin:

• Tourism derives from the Latin word “tornus”, which can be translated as “movement or return”.

• Adventure, on the other hand, comes from the Latin “adventure”, which is equivalent to “the things that have to come”.
Adventure , for its part, is a strange event, a contingency or a risky company with an uncertain outcome.

These two concepts allow us to get closer to the notion of adventure tourism . It is about the tourist activity that involves a trip to a remote area or that includes a plan where unexpected events can occur . It can be said that adventure tourism or adventure tourism is a type of tourism, like cultural tourism or ecological tourism .
The simplest way to understand adventure tourism is as opposed to conventional tourism. If the majority of travelers tend to visit large cities or rest on the beach, adventure tourists opt for more active vacations , which include extreme sports or nature explorations .
There are a wide variety of proposals when it comes to practicing adventure tourism. However, among the most frequent alternatives in this regard are cycling, rural tourism or hiking. This last activity is, without a doubt, one of the most prominent and developing activities in recent years due to the fact that it combines three aspects: culture, sport and the environment.
Many are the populations of the world that already offer interesting hiking routes to their visitors. In this way, they manage to catch them and make them, at the same time, discover corners of incomparable natural beauty that have unique characteristics and peculiarities.
In the case of rural tourism, it should be noted that it is also usually an adventure because it allows activities such as quad routes, tours in all-terrain vehicles and even hiking.
The combination of trekking or hiking with camping (accommodation in a tent or tent) is a form of adventure tourism. Other options include activities like rafting , surfing , horseback riding, or mountaineering .

It should be noted that, sometimes, what is adventure tourism is often confused with adventure sports. However, in this sense the difference is very clear: in order to carry out the second activity mentioned, it is necessary to have experience and training in it, while not for the first.
In other words, it is important to bear in mind that adventure tourism seeks leisure, unlike adventure sports that tend towards competition and require more demanding training.
