The mythology Greek is undoubtedly the most important and popular mythologies. The gods that occupied the Greek Olympus transcended the centuries and are still valid today. And within that vast universe one of the most outstanding goddesses, who had to allude to and represent reproduction , love , beauty and desire, was the goddess Aphrodite.
Owner of great beauty is born from the sea foam
The myth around this goddess says that she arises from the foam of the sea, in the Cyprus area, meanwhile, her physical appearance is of great beauty, with a slender and good-looking body and hair that stands out for its length and its braids . During the Titanomachy, the Titan Crono would have cut the genitals of Uranus (God of the sky) and threw them into the sea and immediately the beautiful maiden Aphrodite emerged .
She was married to Hephaestus, the god of fire, a god feared by the rest. The decision was made by Zeus out of fear that Aphrodite's beauty would generate disputes between the gods who wanted her.
Venerated in the Aphrodisias
As was the tradition with most of the gods, in various cities and towns of Greece special cults and festivals were held that had the mission of venerating and paying homage to them. And of course Aphrodite, a goddess so important to the Greeks, had her own called Aphrodisias.
They were celebrated throughout Greece but especially in the cities of Athens and Corinth. The temple where their worship was carried out was the Acrocorinth, an elevation formed by rocks in the city of Corinth precisely. It was one of the most important buildings in Greece. The priestesses' sexual feast to pay homage to the goddess was a common practice .
This goddess was especially linked to the sea and several of its inhabitants such as dolphins, swans and clams. Also with doves, pearls, and flowers such as apple trees, roses and myrtle, among others.
