Definition of Ameno

We say that a person, a movie, or an activity is enjoyable when we find it pleasant and enjoyable for some reason. In general terms, pleasant people are those who have a good conversation and tell entertaining things and, conversely, we consider someone to be boring because their behavior and their way of being is not very stimulating. Something similar happens in the world of entertainment, in which entertaining and boring are two very common qualifiers when describing the sensations of the spectators.

The amenity and pleasure
The amenity of something has a direct relationship with pleasure. We could say that something is enjoyable if it provides a certain pleasure. As we all know, the human being seeks pleasure and avoids pain as a general rule . Consequently, consciously or unconsciously, we do pleasant things in order to feel good. However, pleasure and pain can be closely linked.
Let's think of a fun activity like going to the theater . In principle, we decided to go because we want to have a good time, but the theatrical performance can cause us sadness or melancholy for some reason, a circumstance that has a painful component. In this sense, in the entertainment world there are two types of representations: those that are presented as a simple entertainment (for example, the circus or comedy) and those in which there are other ingredients (in a tragedy the viewer is entertained, but at the same time he reflects on the problems that affect the characters).

The amenity and knowledge
Certain activities seem enjoyable to us because we have previously become familiar with them through a slow process of knowledge. If someone begins to study Latin, it is very likely that they will not have fun, but over time they can come to enjoy reading the classics or even being part of a group that meets to speak in Latin. This simple example reminds us that on many occasions we find something difficult and boring and finally we consider it very enjoyable.
The importance of leisure
The 24 hours a day are normally divided into three sections: some hours to sleep, others to work and the rest for leisure. Most leisure and free time alternatives have a common denominator: that the consumer enjoys them and considers them enjoyable.
Each individual has their own criteria when it comes to assessing something as enjoyable or boring. No activity is objectively enjoyable or boring, since one or another consideration depends on many factors (personal interests, culture, motivations ...). However, companies or institutions that are dedicated to leisure try to make their proposals as pleasant as possible for the largest number of people.
