Definition of Alarm

Signal that alerts you to immediate danger
Depending on the context in which it is used, the word alarm can refer to various issues.

One of the most recurrent uses of the term is to designate that signal that warns of the existence of an immediate danger . "The officers who take care of the sector sounded the alarm."
Danger warning device
On the other hand, the device that warns about a danger or warns about some particularity is also called an alarm. “The car alarm went off in the middle of the night and it really scared us”; "If it wasn't for the alarm clock, we would have continued sleeping."

Feeling restless
Likewise, when a feeling of restlessness dominates us, we suffer from a fright or something startles us, the term alarm is often used to refer to them. "After the bomb threats in the building, the alarm spread among those present."

Alarm systems that help prevent insecurity
An alarm system is an element widely used in security and although it does not completely prevent an abnormal situation from happening, it is very useful to prevent it, since it is able to warn about it, for example, warn when some intruder enters our property, when someone tries to force our car, sound when the presence of fire is detected, the overflow of a water tank, the presence of some pollutants, among other alternatives.

Its operation consists of sending an alert signal to the central alarm unit, then, it will issue the communication pertinent to the place and if no response is found, it will send the corresponding personnel to the area, for example, a firefighters squad in case of a fire alarm.
It must be said that many home and car alarms have great sensitivity and are often activated when there is no specific danger but only when someone touched a sensor. In any case, the owner of the car or the company that it monitors must attend the place to inspect if there is an illicit or not.
Types of alarms
Meanwhile, there are different types of alarms ... The auto-calling alarm are those transmitters, generally portable, that have a push-button, which, in case of being activated, will send a direct signal to the alarm center. This allows the signal to be emitted from the place of the house or office in which it is, since the transmitter is specially designed to be placed on the neck, clipped on the clothing or on the wrist of individuals. As soon as the button is pressed and the alarm signal arrives, the unit in question will communicate with a relative or stipulated interested party to find out if it was accidentally activated or because there is a real danger. If there is no response, a professional will be sent to verify the situation on the spot.
Security forces such as the police, prevention and aid such as firefighters and emergency health care usually have alarm devices in their transfer mobiles that are intended to warn citizens that they are circulating in the vicinity at high speed and that they are likely to pass red lights for example. For example, when motorists notice these alarm sounds, which are certainly powerful, they stop the march and leave room for these mobiles to be able to go to the place quickly. The idea is that the motorist gives way, runs and thus also avoid possible traffic accidents.
Used by the security forces, firefighters and the health area
This type of alarm normally sounds when the police are chasing criminals, when the ambulance transports a life-threatening sick person or the firefighters are coming to put out a fire or to be present in a disaster area that requires them.
On the other hand, a fire alarm is a device specially prepared to warn the inhabitants of a building about the presence of fire and thus facilitate its rapid evacuation. It will be activated when its sensors perceive a sudden change in temperature or when they directly detect smoke. The device can be electromechanical, horn, bell or electronic.

Hotel rooms, private and private entities, where many people are normally concentrated, usually have this device.
Origin of the concept
But let's do a bit of history to be able to know its origin, which is closely related to weapons. In ancient times an expression was commonly used , a gripo: To arms! Which was heard and disseminated when the presence of an enemy was noticed in the forts or in the military campaign areas. The soldiers and warriors used to stack their weapons in one area of the fort and they all had to run there quickly when the scream was heard. Take the corresponding weapon and prepare to defend or shoot.
Now, although nowadays and in any other context this cry is not uttered exactly as in the past, it is common for someone to raise their voice to warn of the danger and to raise the alarm on some subject that lurks.
